Lots of changes

There have been lots of exciting changes in our office lately. We have welcomed two new staff members – Jesse and Louise. We will be updating our website with photos and bios shortly. Now that tax season is over for another year, we can stop and smell the flowers!
Norm has decided to retire effective May 31, 2011. We will be sad to see him go, but he has lots of travel plans! Feel free to drop in so you can meet our new staff and pass along your wishes to Norm

Are you confused about the HST and the impact it will have on your business?

The basic rule is quite simple ~ if you charge GST on an item, the rate changes from 5% to 12% on July 1st. Whatever you charge GST on, you charge HST on. The same goes for your purchases. The benefit of the HST is that while we now have to charge 12%, we can claim back the full 12% on our purchases.

If you have not met Dallas yet, she used to work with us a couple of years ago. She took a side trip to Alberta for the past 3 years, and has come back to Victoria.

Have you had your 2009 personal taxes completed yet? The deadline for filing is this Friday – April 30th.

Cosmetic Surgery will no longer be eligible for the medical exemption on your personal tax return. This includes teeth whitening, hair replacement, Botox, face lifts, etc.

The GST/HST will be added to the cost of these procedures. This may create situations where medical practitioners must register for the GST/HST.

The large budget deficit will require tax increases in future years. Plan your tax and investment strategy accordingly.

Beat the Rush!

It is hard to believe that the end of February is quickly approaching. We have already started preparing tax returns! Why not beat the mad rush at the end of April and have your personal tax return prepared and filed now. It is especially advantageous, if you get a refund! Just think of all the possibilities!

If you have a balance owing on your tax return, the balance must be paid in full on or before April 30th, 2010.
