Canwest Accounting Ltd. was founded on June 4, 1991. The company started slowly and has focused on client service from the beginning. Our belief is that good service to our clients is the cornerstone of our business. Here we are now, 25 years later and still growing strong.
Our practice has grown over the years partly by word of mouth referrals and partly by purchasing two bookkeeping practices from companies that were retiring. We were lucky to have worked with these two amazing bookkeeping companies and to help them transition into their own retirement. These acquisitions required a substantial increase in staff. The process was not always painless, but the objective of hiring quality professionals has never been deviated from, even when less qualified people would have been a quick fix.
The company currently has 9 full time staff and some of these staff members are currently finishing their Accounting degrees at Camosun College.
I joined Canwest Accounting in February 2004 and have enjoyed working with the wonderful clients and staff throughout the years. Norman Arden decided to retire in June 2011 and I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase the company from Norman.
I have experience in many different industries such as manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, non-profit centers, government agencies, construction and the health care industry. I have worked in Ontario and in British Columbia and have over 25 years experience.
I have many passions in life, but my true passion is photography. Stop in our office and see some of my favourite photographs.
I have worked with Canwest since 2004 and have returned after a 2 1/2 year break visiting family in Alberta and Saskatchewan. I have been working as a bookkeeper/accountant since 1978 in BC and Alberta in various industries such as oil & gas, drilling, dairy co-op, real estate, retail, construction, veterinary practice, auto repair, etc. they are just too numerous to list. When I first moved to Victoria in 1992 I had my own bookkeeping practice for 4 years.
What brings me back to Victoria is the unique active lifestyle that is offered here. Since returning I have joined a dragonboat team and have discovered that being on the water keeps me connected to the rhythm of the ocean that surrounds us. The team members have even shown me the pleasure of paddling in the fall and winter months in Outrigger crafts.
I joined the Canwest Accounting team in April 2015 and have enjoyed being part of the close group of employees here as well as getting to meet all of our fantastic clients. I am currently in the fourth year of my Bachelor’s Degree – Accounting Major at Camosun College. As well as working towards finishing my degree, I am part of multiple sports teams and love playing and watching all kinds of sport, especially the Vancouver Canucks and Dallas Cowboys.
Erwin joined Canwest Accounting in June 2011 as our friendly delivery person. Prior to joining Canwest, Erwin has worked in retail, waste water management and the hospitality industry. Erwin will pick up and drop off time sensitive material between our clients and our office. It is just one of the many services we offer at Canwest.
Erwin enjoys cars, NASCAR, and spending time kayaking with his wife.
I joined the team at Canwest Accounting in May 2016. Shortly after joining, I completed my Bachelor of Business Administration — Accounting Major from Camosun College. I enjoy working with the team and building relationships with our clients. I recently got married and purchased a condo in beautiful Fairfield. I spend my spare time walking with my wife along Dallas Road, through Beacon Hill Park and to downtown Victoria. I am also an avid Canucks fan.
I came on board with Canwest Accounting in September 2016. I am currently enrolled in 4th year of the Bachelor of Business Administration program — with an accounting major at Camosun College. I have experience in customer service, personal income tax preparation and volunteer work through CVITP (Community Volunteer Income Tax Program). I am fluent in three languages: Punjabi, Hindi and English. I like to learn new things and to help others. If I have any spare time, I enjoy listening to Bollywood music.
I started with the Canwest crew in September of 2016. I am working my way through the BBA-Accounting program at Camosun College, and am excited to have the opportunity to be gaining professional accounting experience with such a solid group of peers.
In my spare time I like to play the violin. I’ve played for seniors in retirement homes in the past and they have really enjoyed it. I also enjoy volunteering, including at events such as the annual Car Free YYJ Festival, and also at the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival.
Debbie recently joined Canwest Accounting as their “Administrative Professional”, which means that she is probably the first person a client will hear on the other end of a phone call. Her vast education and practical experience in past accounting positions enable her to flourish in this work environment.
When she is not working, she is involved with two non-profit groups that promote purposes that are really important to her. One of them, the “Friends of Swan Creek Watershed” is a cause that she is extremely passionate about.
